About Steve Stratton
Steve Stratton started his career at the White House Communications Agency supporting President’s Ford and Carter, Vice President’s Rockefeller and Mondale and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. His work took him around the world introducing him to new cultures, ways of thinking, and the various agencies tasked with projecting and protecting American interests abroad. He joined the US Secret Service and after several years and an another election campaign, Steve left for the commercial sector.
Steve earned his Green Beret and deployed with 20th Special Forces on counter-drug and training missions in the SOUTHCOM region. He became a defense contractor who supported USCENTCOM, USSOCOM, and several intelligence agencies.
Today his focus is on bringing Useful Storytelling to technology leaders who want to connect to their audiences in a way that spurs understanding, alignment, and action.
Steve has also authored four books in the Shadow Tier series with #5 publishing mid 2026. His new series is in the Mongol Moon universe, Dances with Arrows and it publishes early 2026.
When he is not writing, you can find him mountain biking, trout fishing, or hunting in Colorado.
Steve’s Charities
Special Operations Warrior Foundation
Should a Special Forces Operator parent make the ultimate sacrifice, Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) will be by the side of their surviving spouse and children. Our commitment is to ensure every child of fallen Special Operations Personnel receives a college education. As of November 2020, our expanded program eligibility now includes children of ALL Medal of Honor recipients as well.
We ensure academic success through much more than simply a tuition check. Special Operations Warrior Foundation takes a “cradle to career” approach: providing students with tools for educational success, including preschool funding, academic counseling, private tutoring, funding for private K–12 education, programs designed for children with special needs, college planning, coaching and mentoring, and college-to-career transition. We are committed to funding the education of nearly 1,000 children, with 37 of those being children of Medal of Honor Recipients. Unfortunately, there will be more families in the future that require our support. We will be there for them.
